THE VISIT OF THE SRI LANKAN LEADER TO CHINA: SRI LANKA IS EXPECTING TO DEEPEN THE MUTUAL BENEFICIAL COOPERATION WITH CHINA

End of 2015: the Government of Sri Lanka stated that Colombo Port City project would be resumed in 2016. This decision has created a good atmosphere for Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who planned to visit China in April. According to the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs, after the invitation of the Chinese Premier Li Kequiang, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was set to pay an official visit to China from April 6th to April 9th. This was the first visit to China since he took office last year.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has introduced some topics that would be discussed during the meeting with the Chinese Government: the process of China-Sri Lanka FTA, the China loan assistance to Sri Lanka, Chinese investments for the infrastructures construction and the attraction of more Chinese private investments for different topics. Sri Lankan Government hopes to develop its good relations with China through this visit and in the years ahead. Thanks to “The Belt and Road Initiative”, the current cooperation between China and Sri Lanka is already increasing gradually.  More and more Chinese businessmen are investing in Colombo.
